Selection of shelving system

1、 The selection process of shelf system

The selection process of a shelf system mainly includes: the demand side proposes warehouse shelf system requirements - the supplier designs and selects a solution - the solution is discussed and optimized - the rationality and optimization degree of the solution are evaluated - the quotation is given - the supplier is selected - the contract is signed - the detailed technical design of the shelf system is carried out - the shelf system is manufactured (material preparation, processing, surface treatment, packaging, etc.) - the shelf system is installed - and accepted.

The requirements of the demand side for the warehouse shelf system usually include: warehouse floor plan, specifications, characteristics, and weight of unit (packaged) goods, specifications, stacking height, and load capacity of unit pallet goods, access methods (manual access, mechanical access, automated access) and access equipment, storage capacity requirements, frequency requirements for entering and exiting the warehouse, management system requirements, control methods, etc.

2、 Classification of shelving systems

According to whether the shelves are fixed or mobile, they can be divided into:

(1) Fixed shelves: Fixed shelves can be subdivided into shelf type, tray type, through type, gravity type, press in type, attic type, steel structure platform, cantilever type, mobile type, drawer type, and cow leg type shelves.

(2) Mobile shelves: Mobile shelves can be divided into mobile shelves and rotating shelves, among which mobile shelves can be further divided into light and medium-sized mobile shelves (also known as dense shelves, divided into manual and electric), heavy-duty pallet mobile shelves, and rotating shelves can be further divided into two types: horizontal rotating shelves and heavy vertical rotating shelves.

2. According to whether the overall structure of the shelf is welded or assembled, it can be divided into:

(1) Welded shelving. (2) Assembled shelving. Currently, assembled shelves are mostly used in China.

3. According to the connection between the shelf system and the warehouse building structure, it can be divided into:

(1) Warehouse shelves are combined with identical shelves. The shelving system and building roof form an inseparable whole, supported directly by the shelving columns to support the roof load, and the building's enclosure (wall) structure is installed on both sides of the columns.

(2) Separate structural shelving. The shelving system and the building are two separate systems that are not directly connected to each other.

4. According to the load capacity of each layer of the shelf, it can be roughly divided into:

(1) Lightweight shelving: The load capacity per layer shall not exceed 200kg.

(2) Medium sized shelves: Each layer has a load capacity of 200~500kg.

5. Divided by the height of the shelves

(1) Low shelf: height below 5m.

(2) High shelf: height 5-12m.

3、 Structural characteristics, application scope, and selection principles of various shelving systems

1. Shelf style shelving. Shelf type shelves are usually manually accessed, with an assembled structure and adjustable layer spacing. The goods are often loose or not very heavy packaged items (for easy manual access). The shelf height is usually below 2.5m, otherwise it is difficult for manual access (if supplemented with a climbing car, it can be set at around 3m). The span (i.e. length) of the unit shelf should not be too long, and the depth (i.e. width) of the unit shelf should not be too deep. According to the load capacity of each layer of the unit shelf, it can be divided into light, medium, and heavy shelf shelves. The main types of shelves are steel shelves and wooden shelves.

(1) Lightweight shelf type shelving: The load-bearing capacity of each layer of the unit shelving is not more than 200kg, and the total load-bearing capacity is generally not more than 2000kg. The span of the unit shelving is usually not more than 2m, the depth is not more than 1m (mostly within 0.6m), and the height is generally within 3m. The common structure is the angle steel column shelving, which has a lightweight and beautiful appearance and is mainly suitable for storing light and small items. Low capital investment, widely used in industries such as electronics, light industry, and education.

(2) Medium sized shelving: The load-bearing capacity of each layer of the unit shelving is generally between 200~800 kg, and the total load-bearing capacity is generally not more than 5000 kg. The span of the unit shelving is usually not more than 2.6 meters, the depth is not more than 1 meter, and the height is generally within 3 meters. If the span of the unit shelf is within 2 meters and the layer load is within 500 kilograms, it is usually more suitable to choose beamless medium-sized shelf shelves; If the span of the unit shelf is more than 2 meters, generally only beam type medium-sized shelf type shelves can be selected. Compared with beam type medium-sized shelves, beamless medium-sized shelves have more adjustable interlayer spacing, are more stable and beautiful, have better coordination with the environment, and are more suitable for warehouses with higher cleanliness requirements; Medium sized shelving with beams has stronger industrial characteristics and is more suitable for storing metal structural products. Medium sized shelf shelves are widely used and suitable for various industries.

(3) Heavy duty shelving: The load capacity of each layer of the unit shelving is usually between 500~1500kg, the span of the unit shelving is generally within 3m, the depth is within 1.2m, the height is not limited, and it is usually combined and coexists with heavy-duty pallet shelving. The lower layers are shelf type, and manual access operation is carried out. The parts with a height of more than 2m are usually pallet shelving, and forklift access operation is used. It is mainly used for situations that require both bulk storage and retrieval, as well as zero storage and retrieval. It is more common in large warehouse style supermarkets and logistics centers.
