Shelves refer to various appliances such as cabinets, racks, cabinets, boxes, etc. used in store halls to display and place products intended for sale in the near future. In recent years, stores in various regions have made widespread adjustments to the display effect of their business halls in order to adapt to new situations and improve their competitiveness. The main product display devices such as shelves and counters have been modified, and some have installed new shelves, making the appearance of their business halls look brand new.

The display of goods on shelves makes full use of the business space compared to setting up stalls. The purpose is to arrange the goods in an orderly manner, making it clear to customers at a glance, and quickly conveying product information to customers. Through the emotional display of goods, it inspires and strengthens the determination to purchase; It is also a basic business facility for salespeople to provide customers with high-quality services. Whether it is cabinet style shelves, cabinet style shelves, box style shelves, or hanging rack shelves, they are all used to store different products for customers to choose from conveniently. Groups of shelves separate different varieties for sale, forming sales teams, so that customers can follow the channel network formed by the shelves as soon as they enter the store hall, and see the dazzling array of products operated by the store. The sales service of the store is directly completed with customers in front of the shelves.

The layout of shelves is the main content of business hall layout. The channels woven by shelves determine the flow of customers. Regardless of the layout methods used, such as vertical cross, diagonal cross, radial, free flow or direct, a certain degree of flexibility should be reserved for changes in business content, so as to adjust the form of shelf layout as needed. So modern comprehensive shopping malls use a combination of various shelves, and only some specialty stores use a small amount of fixed forms.

The distance between shelves should ensure smooth passenger flow. It is not a problem for small shops to set shelves facing the store door and sticking them to the wall. For large food stores, department stores, clothing stores, etc., the reasonable distance should be calculated based on the foot traffic formed by the store's scale and the volume of the operating products. Generally speaking, the main channel should be between 1.6 and 4.5 meters, and the secondary channel should not be less than 1.2-2 meters.

Due to the different characteristics of shape, volume, value, etc. of various types of goods, different requirements are inevitably put forward for shelves and other exhibition and sales equipment in order to achieve the best display effect. Designing shelves based on various types of products is currently a direction of effort in business hall design.

The uniqueness of goods mainly lies in whether they can be stacked, hung, vertically, horizontally, or in bulk. Some goods are sensitive to temperature and light and require glass refrigeration shelves, while some precious goods have special requirements for shelf safety measures. For some goods that can be directly touched by customers, sufficient convenience should be provided in the design for customers. The drawer style shelves in traditional Chinese pharmacies, the Bogu style shelves in cultural relics stores, the platform style shelves in bookstores, the box style shelves in fruit stores, and the boom style shelves in clothing stores are all designed according to the characteristics of their respective business varieties.
